Birds of Prey and Human Contact

Osprey

The Osprey is almost exclusively a fish eating bird. Living primarily near open waters and high up in trees or man made structures.

Ospreys are found on every continent in the world with the exception of Antarctica

Ospreys have scales on the bottom of their feet which allow them to keep a grasp on the slippery fish they snag out of the water. Ospreys always turn the fish head first during flight, presumed for aerodynamic purposes.

Occasionally Ospreys will completely submerge themselves in the water while being drug by a large fish, this has been known to drown the determined predator. Some fisherman have even reported finding Osprey talons in the fish that they have caught.

Osprey have been found to be one of the most difficult birds to breed in captivity, they often are unwilling to eat and are afraid of humans.
